Discovering faith in Jesus Christ is "as simple as the ABC's" and making Him your Lord will be the most exciting journey of your lifetime.
A- ADMIT you are a sinner.
We must believe that we cannot save ourselves, that we are sinners hopelessly lost in out sins, in need of a Savior. "Sin" means literally "missing the mark," that is, missing the target of God's perfection, His holiness, in your life. None of us can even remotely stack up to God's holiness. Admitting you are a sinner includes repentance, that is, a godly sorrow for your sins and a U-turn away from a self-centered, self-determined life to a life that is centered on honoring Christ.
All Have Sinned:
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
The Result of Sin is Death (Hell):
Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death
Repent of Your Sins [turn away from sin]:
Luke 13:5 “…unless you repent, you too will all perish."
B - BELIEVE (have saving faith). Saving faith includes:
• HEAD KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge of the basic gospel story that God became man in Jesus Christ, that He was born of a virgin, He died on the cross taking the punishment for all our sins, He arose from the dead, and that one day He will return and will judge the earth. Belief in these facts alone, is not saving faith - Satan knows these things and is doomed for eternity! Belief must also include...
• HEART KNOWLEDGE, TRUST in Jesus as Savior. We must trust in Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross for our salvation, that through Him is the only way to heaven and to fellowship with the Heavenly Father. There is no other way to know God or to enter into heaven apart from Jesus Christ. As an illustration, I believe airplanes fly but I trust in one only when I get on board one and take off. To trust in Jesus means I trust that He died on the cross for me, that He took my sins on himself, that I find my security for life eternal in Him alone. I need look no where else. Faith is personalized-Jesus is MY savior, MY Lord. There is a difference between knowing facts ABOUT Jesus and believing IN Jesus.
Jesus Loves You and Died for Your Sin:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus Offers Eternal Life:
Romans 6:23b ... the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus Offers a Full and Abundant Life:
John 10:10...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
C - CONFESS Jesus as Savior
Romans 10:9-10, 13 ... if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. ... "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
One way to confess your faith before men is to follow through in believer's baptism as Jesus has instructed. Another important "C" word is...
C- COMMIT your life to Jesus as Lord
We must commit to the Lordship of Jesus. Joyfully making Jesus Lord (in control of your life, your "boss") is a commitment that will have ramifications your entire life. It will be an on-going, daily activity. Satan believes (head knowledge) in the birth, death and resurrection of Christ. His trouble is he chooses rebellion against Christ instead of a commitment to follow Him as Lord.
Receive Jesus Into Your Life and Enter the Family of God:
John 1:12-13 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
Receive Jesus as Savior and Lord and Be Assured of Eternity in Heaven:
John 14:1-3 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
True commitment to Jesus will lead to a changed life.
James 2:17 "Faith without works is dead".
Salvation is God's gift to you. God's response to man's repentance and belief is the granting of salvation. Repentance and faith do not save - Jesus saves! What is impossible with man is possible with God!
Salvation by Grace, Not by Works
Ephesians 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
A SINNER'S PRAYER
Our Father, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. Today, I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. Today I place my trust in You as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus' Name. Amen
